Happy Earth Day!

GardenSomeone asked me once why I recycle so much. “What difference does it make?” she asked. “You’re just one person.”

I replied, “If I don’t do it, who will?”

I know it’s cliché, but we celebrate Earth Day everyday in our household. We recycle as much as we can, use reusable bags, have a rain barrel, maintain a garden, etc. And I know there’s more I should do. I just want my daughter to know we value the Earth and what it gives back to us.

So on this Earth Day, pick one thing you can do to celebrate. Trying growing a garden this year, even if it’s just a couple of veggies. Throw more things in that recycling bin. Find out how you can recycle old batteries (Batteries Plus in Ankeny takes them) or computers.

As for me, I need to figure out how to keep our composter from getting so stinky. I think I need to add more baking soda.
